Travelodge plans expansion of hotels in Spain

Travelodge, the UK-based, low-cost hotel group,  has begun building a new hotel in Spain in the city of Valencia. Travelodge is beginning a new, ambitious expansion plan which will represent a total investment of around 1 billion€ and will include the construction of some new hotels in Spain as part of the expansion programme. Apart from Valencia, the company is considering the construction of two new additional hotels in two of the top city destinations in Spain, namely Seville and Barcelona. The new Travelodge hotel in Valencia will have 116 rooms in total and will be located near the airport of the capital of the coast of Levante. The hotel will be able to be reached in just a few minutes by Valencia’s metro system.

International Development Director for Travelodge in Spain, Horacio Alcalá, stated that he was very pleased with the start of construction of the new hotel and pointed out that  “the new establishment in Valencia is ideally located to meet the demands of all travellers, holiday makers and business guests alike as it takes just two minutes to reach the airport from the hotel by metro and only twenty minutes to get to the centre of the city”.

Travelodge has recruited the services of five regional experts from different parts of Spain who will be tasked with searching for both new potential locations and investors to help undertake the project to expand the hotel group in Spain. The hotel chain first opened for business in 1985 and currently has more than 399 hotels in the group – 10 in Ireland, three in Spain and the rest in the UK. Despite the current difficult times for the tourism sector Travelodge plans to increase its hotel portfolio and reach 70,000 rooms by 2020.
