
According to figures released by the Department of Tourism in Tenerife a total of 450,554 guests stayed in hotels on this island in Spain during the month of July. That represents an increase of some 3.77 percent in relation to the same period last year.
The Department of Tourism indicated that during the month of July the increase in reservations in Tenerife hotels was particularly strong among the 5 star hotels on the island with hotels in this category registering a 10.67 per percent growth in reservations over the same period last year. In relation to apartments there was an increase of 5.02 percent in occupancy levels with a total of 187,765 more tourists staying in this type of accommodation than in July 2009.
The number of visitors who came from outside Spain and stayed in hotels in Tenerife this July grew by some 8.92 percent compared to last year. The British and German markets, which represent the main source of foreign tourists who visit Spain, showed increases of 14.79 and 9.31 percent respectively, whilst the number of visitors coming to Tenerife from France increased by 37.42 percent, from Russia by 26 percent, from Italy 9.85 percent and from Belgium 9.38 percent.
In relation to visitors from other parts of Spain who stayed in Tenerife hotels this July there was a decline of some 3.46 percent. Overall, there was a total of 3,250,289 hotel bookings in Tenerife in July, which represents a 2.24 percent increase over the same month last year. The occupancy rate stood at 58.57%, 3.92% higher than last year.
In relation to the main tourist areas of Tenerife, the figures from the Department of Tourism show that 364,189 guests stayed in the popular resorts in the south of the island, which represents an increase of 7.14 percent compared to 2009. The hotels in these areas registered a total of 204,072 guests, an increase of 7.94% over last year, while the number of guests who stayed in apartments in the southern resorts reached 160,177, an increase of 6.14 percent on 2009.
On the other hand, the northern resorts of Tenerife, which are traditionally more popular with tourists from the rest of Spain hosted 72,923 guests, representing a decrease of 8.7 percent. 46,144 guests stayed in the hotels in the north of the island, which is a decrease of 12.11 percent over 2009, whilst the reduction in occupancy rates in apartments on the north of the island was 2.18 percent, meaning a total of 26,779 tourists stayed in this type of accommodation in the north of the island in July.
