Obamas to stay in Malaga hotel during visit to Spain

Michelle Obama, the first lady of the USA, and her daughter Sasha will arrive on the Costa del Sol on August 4th for a short summer break to Spain. The Obama family members will be staying at the luxury Hotel Villa Padierna, located in the municipality of Benahavis, just a few kilometers outside Marbella. The resort is run by the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain in Spain and boasts a presidential suite of some 64 square meters, comprising a living room and outdoor terrace of 30 square meters. There is also the so-called “amphitheatre suite” which is 250 square meters with private terrace and first class room service. The establishment is one of the few hotels in Spain to be nominated for the prestigious title of “best resort” by the World Travel Awards organization. Among its facilities, Michelle Obama will enjoy the select cuisine of three top class restaurants – La Veranda, not long ago awarded the “best hotel food” prize by the Gastronomic Academy of Malaga, La Loggia and La Pergola.

In addition , the first lady will have the opportunity to visit the Thermae Spa and three of the best golf courses in southern Spain, all located in close vicinity to the Villa Padierna resort. The visit is scheduled for 4th to 8th of August and Mrs Obama will join the long list of celebrities and distinguished visitors who have stayed in the best Marbella hotels. Charles de Gaulle finished writing his memoirs whilst enjoying the spectacular Marbella sunsets, Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Princess Diana and Senator Edward Kennedy have all at various times been attracted by the sun and spectacular beauty of this part of the Andalusian coast of Spain.

Michelle Obama will be in good company as some of the other regular visitors who spend part of the summer every year in this part of Spain include Antonio Banderas and Julio Iglesias. They have already arrived in the area and Banderas is expected to attend “The Starlite Gala”, a charity event to be held on the 7th August at the Hotel Villa Padierna. It is likely that the first lady will attend as she was invited by her friend Eva Longoria, one of the event organizers.
