A new four star hotel belonging to the Hipotels chain is currently under construction in the province of Cadiz on the southern coast of Spain. The company already operates six hotels in the Cadiz region and plans to open the doors of the seventh hotel in this part of Spain next May. The new hotel will be called the “Gran Conil” and, when finished, will be the latest addition to the Hipotels network which, apart from the hotels in Cadiz, also operates 13 hotels and aparthotels on the island of Mallorca and three hotels on Lanzarote.
An investment of some 40 million Euro was secured for the project and the hotel will have 330 rooms in total. When finished the hotel will become part of the greater tourism product of Andalusia, a region of Spain where 62 percent of the accommodation is made up of 4 and 5 star hotels. The new hotel, built under the direction of architect Antonio Fernández, is located on a 24,000 square meter site and will have a total built area of 33,000 square meters. The hotel design incorporates all the latest ecologically-friendly materials with a view to reducing electricity consumption and CO2 emissions.
Antonio Roldan, the mayor of Conil de la Frontera, considers the construction of this new four star hotel on the beach of La Fontanilla as a first sign of a “green shoot” in the cycle of the current economic crisis.
Juan Llull, president of the Hipotels group, explained that he chose to build this latest hotel in Spain rather than carry out a planned project in Mexico for which he already had two plots of land and all the necessary permits granted. Mr Llull went on to say that, despite the current economic climate in Spain, he was embarking on the launch of this new project in the province of Cadiz in a spirit of “courage and hope”.
