Sir Norman Foster to design luxury hotel in Tenerife

Tenerife hotels

The local council of the town of Guía de Isora in the southern part of the island of Tenerife in Spain, is negotiating the construction of a new luxury hotel in the Los Maguenes area which will also have a golf course and residential area of some 854,397 square meters. The hotel will be designed by the British architect Sir Norman Foster, who has also been commissioned to design the Museum of Aviation in Spain, to be located in Getafe near Madrid.

According to the Mayor of Guía de Isora, Pedro Martín, the new hotel will be managed by the same company that manages the Gran hotel Bahía del Duque on the Costa Adeje. The hotel is expected to be located near the Abama hotel, which was the first luxury resort in the area and was inaugurated in November 2006. The second luxury resort which was built on the island was the Palacio de Isora in Alcalá, managed by the Sol Meliá group from Spain.

Mr Martín explained that the local council of this part of Spain is betting on the development of a new tourist town on the island with a distinctive mix of luxury and high quality. There is a belief among local councillors that by developing a new high-quality resort in the south of the island more affluent and higher-spending tourists can be attracted to this part of Tenerife, which is normally associated with the type of tourist who visits the many other mass-tourism destinations all over Spain.

The Abama Golf & Spa Resort is a 160 hectare area with tropical vegetation and more than 300 different plants and palm trees and spectacular panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. It is located on the South West Coast of Tenerife on the slopes of the mount Teide. The Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora is also located at the bottom of mount Teide and is indeed a palace of pavilions, towers and gardens. It has 6 swimming pools, a small beach and a cliff lagoon among other features. The Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque stands in Adeje, one of the most beautiful areas of southern Tenerife, it has subtropical gardens leading to the sandy beach of the Playa del Duque.
