It seems that the tourism sector in Lanzarote has started a tentative recovery from the recent crisis and hotel owners have reported an increase of some 6% in hotel reservations in June on this island in Spain compared to the same period last year.
According to the Hotel Association of Lanzarote the arrival of summer has meant that the hotels and tourist resorts on the island are now showing high levels of occupancy which is a source of some optimism in these difficult times in Spain. A monthly report carried out by this hotel association in Spain shows that 4 star hotels in Lanzarote, which are the second most important type of accommodation on the island due to the volume of rooms these establishments represent as a percentage of the total on the island, achieved an average occupancy of 69.90 per cent in June past. The occupancy rates recorded for apartments in the same period was just over the 73.86 per cent mark.
When compared to the same period last year, which was the worst for the tourism sector in the Canary Islands and for hotels in Spain in general, occupancy levels in hotels and apartments have achieved a rise of almost 6 points (5.84).
According to the monthly statistics carried out by the hotel association of Lanzarote, during the first half of this year there has been an average increase of 4.01 percentage points in tourist occupation levels compared to the first six months of 2009, with an average of 65.58 % occupancy. This confirms a slight improvement of the main economic sector in Lanzarote.
