Tenerife hotels recognised in TUI Holly awards

The TUI Holly awards have recognized seven hotels in Tenerife as being among the top 100 establishments in the world. Every Autumn since 1994 TUI has arranged an annual celebration to award the 100 most popular holiday hotels with a TUI Holly. Every year the German tourism industry carries out half a million surveys so that TUI guests can decide which hotels can count themselves among the top 100 in the international holiday hotel trade. The TUI Holly can therefore be seen as a guarantee of very high guest satisfaction levels and can be an important sales tool to promote the selected hotels in both travel agencies and the Internet. Indeed, TUI say that hotels that have won a Holly, have been able to increase bookings by up to 35 percent.

Carlos Alonso, Minister of the Tourist board in Tenerife, said in a statement that obtaining these awards was simply an acknowledgement of the constant hard work that hoteliers do to offer visitors the “highest quality”, and they highlight the effort that the Tenerife Tourist board makes to ensure the island retains a reputation as a “competitive leader destination”. The Minister added that these awards should also be used to encourage other establishments on the island that want to provide high ...Click to read more about Tenerife Hotels

Tourist numbers up in Tenerife luxury hotels

Tenerife continues to establish itself as a popular tourist destination for high spending European tourists. The hotel industry has just closed a great year on the Spanish island and the managers of the main top class hotels there have confirmed that luxury tourism grew by some 20 percent last year when compared to 2010, which itself also ended with a 15 percent increase over the results obtained in 2009.

This success has been put down mainly to the fact that many of the island’s five star hotels have been renovated recently and have added more value to their offering by providing luxury accompanied by exclusivity, resulting in personal attention, relaxation and privacy. Tenerife’s climate and natural beauty provide the rest.

José Fernando Cabrera, owner of Royal Garden Villas, said “luxury tourism has evolved very positively over the past two years.” In addition, new markets have emerged to join the large numbers of traditional visitors from the UK and Germany. Cabrera went on to say, “there has been an increase in Russian tourists, especially in the winter season, and also guests from the Scandinavian countries as well as France, Belgium and, more recently, even Saudi Arabia”.

Marine Vigouroux, Public Relations Manager in the exclusive Abama Golf and Spa hotel, said client ...Click to read more about Tenerife Hotels

Tenerife hotels pass the two million guest mark

During the first six months of this year the hotels in Tenerife received a total of 2,471,622 guests which represents an increase of some 6.8 percent over the same period in 2010. These figures were produced by the Local Government of the island and agreed by the research arm of the Department of Tourism in Tenerife which went on to highlight that the results were positive both in hotels, which are up 8.7 percent, and other types of accommodation which are also up around 3.8 percent.

The positive headline numbers for the first six months of 2011, however, mask a more worrying trend among tourists coming from other parts of Spain. The total of 577,464 visitors who arrived from mainland Spain during the period actually represents a decline of 14.7 percent over last year and goes some way to reflect the depth of the economic crisis currently gripping Spain.

On the other hand, the number of foreign visitors arriving in Tenerife increased by 15.6 percent during the period reaching 1,894,158. Two main areas were the main benefactors of this growth in the number of foreign visitors coming to the island. The hotels in the north of the island received some 21 percent of foreign clients whilst the hotels in the ...Click to read more about Tenerife Hotels
