Hotels in Spain preferred by celebrities

Who among us has never wondered what it would be like to step into the shoes of a celebrity for a few days? Festivals, premieres, parties, designer clothes for stepping out on the red carpet and enjoying the “dolce far niente” without another care in the world.  Film stars, musicians, sportsmen and even politicians love to travel all over the world and Spain is one of their favourite destinations either for spending their main vacations or just for a short break.

Celebrity guests choose many different types of hotels for their stays and majestic historic hotels, small palaces or even grand Paradores are among their favourite hotels in Spain.

Among the hotels in Madrid popular with celebrities are the Hotel AC Santo Mauro and the Ritz Hotel. The former is a small nineteenth-century palace in the centre of Madrid often chosen by David and Victoria Beckham during their visits to the capital of Spain. The Ritz hotel has a long history of countless visits from famous people including Ernest Hemingway and Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco who celebrated their honeymoon in a suite in this landmark Madrid hotel. Famous showbiz guests from the worlds of music and movies included the likes of Ava Gardner, Michelle Pfeiffer, Madonna and Richard Gere.

The W Hotel in Barcelona has been frequented by many familiar names from diverse backgrounds like Shakira through to King Abdullah II of Jordan. Another top Barcelona hotel chosen by celebrities is the Hotel Arts, a firm favourite with the likes of Woody Allen, Mick Jagger and Princess Caroline of Monaco. Le Meridien in Barcelona has played host to Lucciano Pavarotti, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Richard Gere, Prince and Lenny Kravitz.

Outside the two main cities in Spain, last year the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella was the choice of U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and her daughter for their summer holiday. A legendary hotel in Seville is the Hotel Alfonso XIII, opened in 1929 by the King of Spain and Queen Victoria Eugenia, and which has welcomed a host of stars through the years like Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. The Canary Islands are also among the favourite destinations in Spain for celebrities with two main hotels of choice. The Gran Hotel Bahia del Duque in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife has been chosen among others by Michael Schumacher, Margaret Thatcher, Brian May, Mariah Carey and John Major . The Hotel Santa Catalina in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria is the oldest hotel in the city built in 1890 and has seen the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, Maria Callas, Agatha Christie, Gregory Peck and Prince Charles sleep under its roof. It is also frequented by various heads of government in Spain like Felipe Gonzalez and Jose Maria Aznar as well as prominent members of the Spanish Royal Family.
