Hotel Santos Porta Fira opens in Barcelona

We can report that the president of the Santos hotel chain, José Luis Santos, and the two main architects of the project, the Japanese Toyo Ito and Catalan Fermín Vázquez have officially opened the hotel Santos Porta Fira in L’Hospitalet area of Barcelona with an investment of 84 million €.

The president of the hotel chain, José Luis Santos, attended the official opening of the establishment and stated he was very pleased to be able to open the Porta Fira Santos in these difficult times. Despite the current economic crisis the company opened three new hotels in 2008, and intends to continue its policy of expansion and business development with the opening of yet another new hotel in Malaga in 2012.

Santos confirmed that “our intention is to continue to open hotels in Spain in cities like Seville and Valencia and in the long term also beyond the borders of Spain, in cities such as London, Paris or Berlin”.  The Santos Hotels chain celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. They specialise in building unique establishments and exclusive customer care.

The new hotel Santos Porta Fira is a 24 floor building imitating a lotus flower. The architect Toyo Ito said that “there is no better architecture than that of a tree, we have tried to emulate Mother Nature with this hotel and built a tower  twisting as if moved by the wind”. The building is 110 metres high with deep red tones which makes it impossible to be unnoticed.

There are 320 rooms and suites in the hotel all equipped with the latest technology. On the 17th floor is the wellness area with spectacular views of the Barcelona. The establishment also has a Japanese garden.
