The General Manager of the hotel chain Confortel, José Ángel Preciados, reports that the company has decided to open only 8 new hotels in Spain across the current year and 2011. During the last two years the hotel chain has seen its growth rate reduced due to the financial crisis and they consider they will not be able to repeat the success they had in 2007 for at least four or five years.
Confortel hotel chain ownes 18 hotels in Spain, most of them located in urban areas and orientated to the business market. The company has set a goal of reaching 30 hotels all over Spain within four years and they have postponed their expansion abroad until they consolidate their establishments in big cities, mainly in Madrid and Barcelona.
The company has a clear and defined project to expand and they don’t want to change or lose their identity: they want to focus on urban hotels and they are not interested in spas or rural establishments.
There are 4 hotels in Barcelona which are part of the Confortel group: Confortel Almirante located in the Gothic quarter; Confortel Auditori in Barcelona city centre, near the Parque de la Ciutadella, the Zoo and the Auditorium; Confortel Bel Art in Eixample, close to the Sagrada Familia and the Parque Güell and Confortel Barcelona only ten minutes walking distance from the beach and near the Puerto Olimpico.
There are also 4 hotels in Madrid: Confortel Alcalá Norte, located near the airport and Convention Centre; Confortel Pio XII in the north of the city; Confortel Suites Madrid, near Barrio de Salamanca; and Confortel Atrium located in the new business district in the east of Madrid.
